David Doherty, Principal

As Co-Founder & Principal of D|Watts Construction, David is responsible for executive oversight over business operations of the company, overseeing all corporate and financial operations and ensuring client satisfaction. David started his career when he was still in high school, having always worked in construction as a laborer, then a carpenter. After college, he joined a small developer and general contractor in New Jersey as an office engineer where he was exposed to both the owner and contractor roles. In 2005, he was given the opportunity to relocate to the DC area to work for HITT Contracting as an assistant project manager, where he quickly promoted to project manager. 

After leaving HITT for a brief period, David returned as director of business development, focusing on expanding the law firm practice nationally. In 2012, David was offered a position at Washington Woodworking to help oversee the transition of ownership and provide boots on the ground for the new owners. While at Washington Woodworking, David oversaw the selection and implantation of a new accounting system, the rebranding of the company and was an instrumental part of the leadership team overseeing daily operations. 

David’s most recent role was Director of Interiors for Gilbane Building Company, where under his hands-on leadership; he provided both project and executive oversight and the management of day-to-day operations. David had grown the team into a premier interior contractor with annual revenues over $100m.

David’s resume includes some of the largest law firms and corporations in the area as well as the world. His breadth of experience and attention to detail has allowed him to grow a stead base of happy, repeat clients.

David’s passion for client satisfaction and drive to always exceed expectations makes it easy for him to oversee all the business development initiatives and ensure client satisfaction on all our projects.
